Check out some of the main opportunities to specialize in the area and upgrade your resume
Jobs in the technology field are becoming increasingly in demand, keeping up with a progressively more connected world; but how can one stand out in this growing market? Fortunately, there are options for those who want to gain competitive advantages.
Computer science is the most sought-after academic background for the technology market, explains Lucas Tramontin, who holds a degree in computer science and information technology from Cruzeiro do Sul University. The second most sought-after is computer engineering - but all technology professionals can benefit from courses and specializations. "Certifications for specializations are responsible for a considerable increase in salary in the market, also becoming extremely sought after by professionals in the field," explains Lucas.
Something to consider, of course, is the equipment to be used - whether in the work itself or in the learning process. For example, it may be the ideal tool to help advance your tech career. Also, try to have a pleasant and organized workspace. With all of this in place, it's time to start thinking about the ideal course and certification options for you and your goals.
ITIL - Information Technology Infrastructure Library
"ITIL certification, acronym for Information Technology Infrastructure Library, is already considered a basic certification for professionals in the field, and currently is in its fourth version," explains Lucas.
Created in 1980 by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) of the British government, this "library" brings together various IT service management practices and information. It is widely recognized for being one of the largest certifications of its kind and aims to train professionals to manage an IT department. Moreover, it can be used by any company and organization, helping them to elevate the level of effectiveness and quality in their technological processes.
The fourth and newest version of ITIL also deals extensively with the new tools of the "Fourth Industrial Revolution," such as artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, Internet of Things (a term used to refer to our new ability to easily connect multiple devices and transmit information between them) - things for which a technology professional needs to be increasingly prepared.
Considered a basic requirement in some institutions, ITIL has several certification levels, which are: ITIL Foundation, ITIL Practitioner, ITIL Intermediate, ITIL Expert, and ITIL Master.
CISSP
Another significant certification is the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), which can prove valuable for an information security professional.
When taking this exam, you will need to demonstrate skills and knowledge such as security and risk management, asset security, security architecture and engineering, communication and network security, identity and access management, security assessment and testing, security operations, and software development security.
For this certification, in addition to passing the exam, at least five years of confirmed and paid experience in two or more of the eight domains of knowledge of the Common Body of Knowledge (CBK), published by ISC2 (the organization responsible for CISSP), are required.
If you do not have these years of work yet, you can take the test and, if you pass, become an "ISC2 member" while gaining experience (with a six-year deadline). To maintain this membership status during this period, you also need to pay an annual fee of $50.
It is worth mentioning that the CISSP has a test considered quite difficult among technology certifications.
Treinamento CCNA
CISCO also offers some certifications focused on the technology area, such as the CCNA Training (Cisco Certified Network Associate), highlighted by Lucas: "it is the gateway to the world of network infrastructure for companies, enabling the market leader to have what is perhaps the most sought-after networking certification by professionals today," he says.
According to CISCO, the CCNA Training course and exam cover topics such as the fundamental aspects of networking and security, IP services, automation, and programability. There are no formal requirements to take advantage of the opportunity, although it is recommended to have one or more years of experience implementing and handling CISCO tools.
CISCO still offers other certifications for those who work with technology, such as the CyberOps Associate (focused on digital security) and the DevNet Associate (oriented towards software and networking skills).
"With the growing demand for qualified professionals, academic backgrounds and certifications to enter and progress in the field are increasingly valued and necessary to ensure better positions, salaries, and job opportunities," says Lucas. Therefore, whatever certification you want to pursue, it is very important to study and prepare - whether on your own or through specific test-focused courses."
