People are always looking for ways to unlock content filters or parental controls, one of which is macOS Screen Time. In this article I will teach you how to bypass this content filter or prevent someone from doing so.
I recently discovered the location of the screen time or usage time in macOS folders. Fortunately, it is only possible to bypass the filter if you are using the computer as a system administrator.
Just access the following directory: / Library / Managed \ Preferences/
In it you will find a folder with the name of users and inside the configuration files of the Time of Use or Screen Time. Now just delete the file com.apple.familycontrols.contentfilter.plist that the filter will possibly stop working.
So you can go back to browsing the sites that were blocked. Other files can probably unlock other filter settings. I believe this is only possible from an administrator's account.
How to prevent someone from circumventing the filter in this way?
I use macOS time tracking to avoid accessing sites that I think are inappropriate. I still want to continue using computer privileges, luckily I found ways to block the possibility of deleting such a file even though I am an administrator.
Just go to the terminal and type sudo chflags schg / Library / Managed \ Preferences / username /
This function blocks the change of folder and files within the folder, without directly affecting the change within the system preferences. Just do this and your filter will be impossible to delete, unless it reverses the process.
I will not teach you how to reverse this process, but if you want to prevent this from being done, just add the time of use to the terminal and also use some other filter that blocks applications. I use the Fortify from the App Store and it’s very good, it even has a keyword filter in the browser.
I believe that this information is new and unique to macOS users, so I will write below an English version of this article for foreigners to find on Google. Thanks to the readers!
